PJH Dog Training is a science-based dog training practice on Manhattan's Upper West Side, founded by Pepe J. Hernandez, PhD, a behavioral neuroscientist and CPDT-KA certified professional dog trainer. The practice works force-free and reward-based, specializing in behavior modification for dogs navigating the pressures of city life — leash reactivity, fear and aggression, separation anxiety, and the crowded sidewalks, elevators, and lobbies that come with apartment living. Behavior work is the core of the practice. Reactive dogs are supported through Reactive Resilience Therapy™, a structured program built to address the reasons behind a dog's reaction rather than simply managing the symptom. Separation anxiety is treated with gradual, force-free desensitization for barking, destruction, and house-soiling when left alone, offered both in-home and virtually. Puppy training starts as early as 8–12 weeks with structured socialization and impulse control designed to prevent problems before they form, and adolescent group classes cover life skills and obedience for dogs aged 6–18 months. Beyond behavior work, the practice offers agility classes for focus and confidence, scent work for mental enrichment that suits anxious or high-energy dogs particularly well, and structured training walks for real-world leash manners. Sessions run 60 minutes. Private training takes place in clients' homes and neighborhoods so dogs practice where they actually meet their triggers, while group classes run at select NYC locations. Private and behavior programs begin with a virtual or in-person consultation. Service areas include the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Chelsea, Midtown, Tribeca, SoHo, Harlem, and Washington Heights, with additional coverage in Brooklyn and Queens.
